Hillary Clinton is opening her lead over Barack Obama in the most recent Rasmussen poll (39% to 26%). What is even more intriguing is Clinton’s support within the African American community. She is leading Obama for the black vote 41% to 35%. This may change once the primaries get closer, but it is a surprising outcome.
More portentous for Obama is that he is placing third in both Iowa and South Carolina, and he is a distant second in the polls in New Hampshire. To be sure, we are several months away from the first primary vote, a lifetime in politics and apparently in the attention span of most voters, but it is telling that Obama is not doing as well as expected with African American voters.
